Charge the Buyer, Not Just the Seller

Until now the marketplace's whole take came out of the seller's side as commission. Resale marketplaces like Vinted work the other way round: selling is cheap or free, and the buyer pays a small “buyer protection” line at checkout. Several of you asked for that split.

You can now add a buyer service fee, a percentage plus a fixed amount the buyer pays on top of the price and your store keeps. Give it your own label, and it shows as its own line on the listing page, in the cart, on Stripe's checkout page, on the order confirmation and in My Orders. And in the same card you now choose who pays the card processing fee: the seller, as before, or the marketplace (you).

The example follows every change you type, in your currency and your store's language, and turns red if the sale would lose you money. Nothing is saved until you click Save.

The seller's payout is the same with or without it

Commission is still taken on the item price, and the fee is refunded along with the order. Sellers never see the amount. The fee is charged on things that are bought (Buy now, cart, custom offers, purchase requests), not on things that are booked, and the card-fee choice applies to every payment type, bookings included.

Nothing changes until you save

Both are off for every existing store: no buyer fee, seller pays the card fee. The card saves commission, buyer fee and card-fee payer together in one click, so they go live at the same moment. A payment that is already in progress keeps the rules it started with.

In Store Settings → Payment → Commission & Fees, on every plan. The revenue calculator on the website has the same two options, so you can try the numbers before you change anything. Buyer service fee docs · Card fee docs

Shared Seller Hours, an Availability Page and Length per Price Option

A tutor with four listings (trial lesson, standard lesson, exam prep, group class) had to maintain four slot calendars, and nothing stopped a customer booking the 10:00 standard lesson while another customer already held 10:00 on the trial listing. Time slots per listing are right for workshops and classes. They are wrong for anyone who sells their own time.

Turn on Book from the seller's hours on a Date + Time Slots listing type. Listings of that type keep no slots of their own. Instead each seller sets one set of hours on a new Availability page, and every price option on a listing carries its own length. The customer picks an option, a day and a start time, and the start times are worked out from the seller's hours minus everything already booked on any of their listings.

The Availability page shows every booking, scheduled class and time off across all the seller's listings in one calendar, each item linking to the booking or listing. Days off can be added as a range and show as one row. The dashboard nudges new sellers until their hours are set.

No double bookings

The server recomputes every pick, re-checks for a race after the booking is saved, and holds the time while the customer is on Stripe's checkout page. Group classes on the seller's slot-based listings block the hours even before anyone has booked them.

Packages, reschedules and classes follow

Multi-session discounts work on these listings as percent tiers. The reschedule picker is now day-first (a month calendar, then that day's times) on every store. And a class with several places shows “3/10 booked” in Manage Bookings with the attendees grouped under it.

In Store Settings → Listing Form, on a Date + Time Slots listing type. Off by default, so existing listings and their slots are untouched. Sellers find the page under Dashboard → Availability. The new Coaching & Lessons template starts with it on. Availability docs · Seller dashboard docs

Custom Offers in the Cart

On an event or services marketplace a customer often collects quotes from several sellers, a caterer, a photographer, a venue, and wants to pay for the lot at once. Until now each custom offer had its own Accept & Pay button, so three quotes meant three checkouts and three cards on file.

A pending offer now gets a second button on its chat card, Add to cart. The cart line is the offer's real listing at the offer's own price, so delivery, per-seller payouts, commission and refunds all run through the normal cart path, and quotes from several sellers are paid in one checkout. Accept & Pay is unchanged for anyone who wants to pay one offer straight away.

Each seller is paid their own share, your commission applies, and an offer on an item that ships collects the address and holds the payout until the seller ships. Offer lines have no quantity stepper and cannot be combined with a coupon.

Never paid twice

Paying an offer one way expires every other open checkout that holds it. An offer the seller withdraws, or that was paid elsewhere, drops out of the cart with a note saying which one went.

A Richer Marketplace Header and Side-Scrolling Rails

The big resale and fashion marketplaces share a look: a category row under the header, a search box that suggests things before you type, a wishlist heart, and rows of listings that scroll sideways with a heading on the left and “View all” on the right. Owners kept asking for that look, and we have been building it as options instead of custom work.

Site Settings → Header gains a category row (All plus one pill per listing type), a search suggestions panel with trending searches, a second group you name (brands, say) and the newest listings as thumbnails, rotating search examples, a Feed link, a wishlist heart and a round account icon. The Sell button now opens signup with seller already selected. The Featured Listings and Category Showcase sections get a rail mode, an inline heading with its view-all link, image corners, a light price pill and hand-picked listings. And the theme gets a separate heading font and a wishlist colour.

Every option defaults to the current look

Nothing changes on a store until you turn an option on. The header options are on the Marketplace header style, the rail and card options sit in each section's gear panel in the visual editor, and the heading font and wishlist colour are under Theme.

The assistant knows them

Ask the editor assistant for “a row of new arrivals that scrolls sideways” or “sharp corners on the category tiles” and it sets the option. Trending searches and the second group are typed by you; there is no log of buyer searches.

More Improvements

Other things shipped this week.

Improvements This Week
  • DPD UK shop drop-off with a QR code. Turn it on in the DPD card and the seller gets a drop-off code page, a printable label and an email with the code, so they hand the parcel over at any DPD shop with no printer. DPD docs
  • A printable address label (To and From, no postage) for stores without a carrier integration, from a button in My Sales and a link in the seller's sale email. Needs the seller's return address. Shipping docs
  • A multi-session package is one card. Sessions booked in one checkout show as a single package in My Bookings and Manage Bookings, with one status, the package total against the regular price, one Pay button for every payable session, and each session as a row that keeps its own reschedule, completion, receipt and refund
  • Redesigned receipt PDF with the store name in your theme colour, a Paid pill, Billed to and Provided by side by side, one row per thing paid for, and a package receipt that lists every session
  • Czech is the 12th built-in storefront language and CZK a store currency, with Stripe Checkout in Czech and prices as Kč. A Czech description at signup now builds the store in Czech. Translations docs
  • Store Settings got a new home. Overview is now a tile per tab, the tab bar is grouped (Dashboard, Settings, Commerce, Content, People, Data) and collapses to the active group, and email settings moved out of General into their own Emails tab
  • A Coaching & Lessons template at /start/coaching, built on shared seller hours with sample coaches, their hours and package discounts
  • New stores start further along. The description picks a card look and heading font, ten sample listings with detail fields and up to four named sellers, a seller directory page at /sellers, and a privacy policy and terms of service page in the store's language with the placeholders filled in (have them reviewed before you rely on them)
  • Listings page settings: Filter Sections Open by Default (none, the first 1-6, or all) replaces the fixed first-three rule, and a Search Bar Background Color for the search box and sort dropdown
  • Featured Listings cards can show the listing type's pill (Show Listing Type in the gear panel), the same tag as on the listings page
  • The order success page sits inside your store's header and footer with a receipt layout and a what-happens-next list in your colour, and error states are translated
  • Every My Sales row expands into a details panel with the customer, the delivery address, the shipping step and a payout breakdown that adds up (sale minus fee minus card fee). The seller's receipt is redesigned and names the seller
  • Payout after completion gets an “Ask the customer how it went” switch. Off, the payout is released at session end with no email or confirm step, and a reported problem still holds it. Booking payments docs
  • The owner Booking Overview shows how many approved bookings are still unpaid on the Confirmed tile, and explains an abandoned auto-approve checkout on the booking (no email went out, the time is open again)
  • Listing Page settings: an option to show the description before the price and booking box, for all types or per type
  • Quick updates for sellers (On my way, Done in 15 min) is one store-wide switch in the Booking tab
  • The revenue calculator on the website was redesigned and can add a buyer service fee and let the marketplace pay the card fee, with the same math as checkout
  • The visual editor's assistant and the AI design pass moved to newer models, so edit turns and new-store designs come back faster
  • Sellers lose Reschedule and Cancel on a booking once the session has taken place, and customers can never cancel after it. The owner can still cancel and the seller keeps Refund

Bug Fixes

Bug fixes shipped this week.

Fixes This Week
  • New template-mode stores show their starter logo mark again (it was uploaded but never saved since late August)
  • A collaborator who was invited and then signed up saw Access Restricted on Store Settings until the cache expired
  • Seller subscription payments no longer count as sales in the seller dashboard, My Sales, Overview and Analytics
  • Booking review requests count from the end of the session, not from payment, so a class booked weeks ahead is not asked about before it happens
  • Manage Bookings and the owner booking views show the customer's current profile name, not the name at booking time
  • Messages show listing prices in the store currency, and a thread on a listing with several price options says 'From $45' instead of a bare price that read as the amount due
  • The seller dashboard's pending payouts and the owner's total sales now count payouts held until the session ends or the order ships
  • The owner's sale email names the seller's business, falling back to first and last name
  • A store that ships nothing no longer tells the buyer the seller will send shipping information
  • A long seller tagline no longer makes the listing page scroll sideways on phones
  • Event Date and Location filter headings and the List and Map buttons are translated
  • Store sitemaps leave the template and checkout pages out
  • The Availability month view opens on today's month, and the reschedule picker no longer refetches slots in a loop
